Residential Student Leaders

Residential Student Leaders

Resident Assistant (RA) & Community Assistant (CA)

Outdoor Social Program in Sawyer

Be a part of something bigger.

Becoming a residential student leader at UNH gives you the unique opportunity to be a part of building community at UNH and helping to shape the day-to-day life of UNH students. As a Resident Assistant or Community Assistant you'll work as part of a team to create an environment in on-campus housing that students want to live in and come back to each day, each semester, and each year. Being a student leader also helps to open new doors for you and prepare you for the future. As an RA or CA, you'll be able to hone your skills in areas such as communication, teamwork, administration, and emotional intelligence - and we will teach you how to translate these to your next step after UNH. Consider submitting an application to join our team!

The RA/CA application for 2025-2026 will be available starting November 18, 2024. The application deadline is 11:59pm EST on December 18, 2024.

Support & Frequently Asked Questions

Please review the commonly asked questions below. If you need additional support, please contact your current RA/CA or hall/apartment team.

Yes, there is an option in the application to tell us you are interested in both positions.

Definitely! Interviews are conducted virtually, so as long as you have Wi-Fi access you can participate.

At their base, RA and CA roles are educational experiences and valuable skill development opportunities. To connect with residents and be successful in the role, RAs and CAs receive a furnished room in their assigned community, as well as a base (Campus Core) meal plan, at no cost to the RA/CA.

Through the interview process we will get to know you, your strengths, and your skills. This will help us to learn where we best think you would fit as an RA/CA. The application will ask for preferences, which are taken into consideration, but ultimately the department will make the determination as to where you will be assigned.

Don't worry about it - we will handle it all! If you accept an RA/CA role and you already have housing for next year, we will automatically reassign you to the RA/CA designated space in the community you are assigned. There is nothing you need to do and you are not charged a cancellation fee for this change.

If you accept a RA/CA role, are reassigned, and then choose to not accept the position, we can work one-on-one with you if you still want on-campus housing. We cannot guarantee that your original assignment will still be available.

For questions about the RA position, please contact Charlie Ferens, Assistant Director of Residential Life.

For questions about the CA position, please contact Donna Han, Assistant Director of Housing.
