Supported Graduate Opportunities
Some of the most common graduate student external funding opportunities are listed below.
Boren* - Fund research and language study proposals by U.S. graduate students in world regions critical to U.S. interests.
Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) - Fully funded immersive summer program studying a critical foreign language
Fulbright* - Provides funding for an academic year of research or study at an institution abroad
Nancy Foster - Provides support for master’s and doctoral degrees in oceanography, marine biology, maritime archaeology
National Defense Graduate Fellowship - Fellowships for early-career graduate students in STEM
National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship (NSF GRFP) - Fellowship for first- or second-year graduate students in STEM and social sciences.
Charlotte Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship - Supports doctoral candidates in their final year of writing, who are working in areas of religion, ethics, values, or morals.
SMART - Supports graduate students in STEM disciplines
Switzer - One-year fellowship for graduate students in New England and California whose career goals focus on environmental improvement
