Research grants are awarded primarily to highly qualified PhD candidates who are early in their academic/professional careers or to individuals wishing to earn a doctoral degree in Germany. Funding may also be granted to recent PhDs who would like to conduct research.

Value: Monthly stipends are approximately €1,000. DAAD will pay for health insurance and provide a flat rate subsidy for travel costs. In addition, limited funds are available for a rent subsidy and family allowance.
Eligibility: Monthly stipend (varies based on academic level); Payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance; Travel allowance, unless these expenses are covered by the home country or another source of funding; One-time research allowance; Under certain circumstances, grant holders may receive the following additional benefits: monthly rent subsidy and monthly allowance for accompanying members of family
