Aulbani J. (AJ) Beauregard entered the University of New Hampshire in the fall of 2018 with the intent on pursuing many academic and extracurricular opportunities. From the day she arrived as an energetic participant in the CONNECT Program her infectious personality and lively intelligence enriched our community. Over the course of the fall semester AJ excelled in her classes while maintaining an incredible active and enthusiastic commitment to several campus groups and organizations. She was a member of Caribbean Cats dance crew, Alliance, Black Student Union, MOSAICO and the was named the winner of the Mx. Category in the 2018 Mr. Ms. Mx. Mosaico Annual Talent Show. Highly motivated, generous, empathic, and resilient- AJ was a truly a positive force in our community. In one short semester left a lasting impact as she spoke her truth and gave voice to those who were not able to do the same. Sadly AJ passed away unexpectedly in December of 2018. We are honored at UNH to recall AJ’s legacy everyday.
In 2020, the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs was renamed the Aulbani J. Beauregard Center for Equity, Justice, and Freedom. A fitting reflection of AJ’s unwavering dedication, passion and commitment to creating an inclusive community. A magnolia tree was planted in Murkland Courtyard dedicated to her memory. Even when it’s not in flower, it conveys AJ’s glowing spirit in how it continues to permeate our hearts and our actions.
