The University of New Hampshire’s annual MLK Day of Service brings together students, faculty, and staff to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy through service to our local communities. Each year a committee of students, faculty, and staff identify a theme for the day of service. Alongside acts of service, this annual initiative invites students, faculty, and staff to learn about issues facing our communities through active and passive education.
Program Goals
The UNH MLK Day of Service aims to foster a deeper understanding of Dr. King’s philosophy of nonviolence, service, and justice by:

Fostering a sense of shared civic responsibility by reflecting on our roles as active and engaged community members.

Learning about issues facing our communities and how we can address these issues in alignment with Dr. King's vision.
- Coming together to engage in acts of service to help address the issues facing our communities.
The MLK Day of Service transitioned permanently to the Beauregard Center in September 2024 and evolved into its current form.
2025 MLK Day of Service
The Aulbani J. Beauregard Center for Equity, Justice, and Freedom, and the Office of Community, Equity, and Diversity partnered to bring the 2025 University of New Hampshire Annual MLK Day of Service, which was held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 10 am – 3:30 pm in the MUB Strafford Room.
The theme for the 2025 UNH MLK Day of Service was to support people's basic needs. Proceeds from this years' service benefitted UNH Basic Needs Support, Community Action Partnership (CAP) of Strafford County, Pope Memorial Humane Society, and local public schools.
Thanks to everyone's collaboration, the event resulted in the donation of 180 15-pound bags of rice to the UNH Basic Needs Program, 20 small blankets to the Pope Memorial Human Society, and 45 large blankets to the Community Action Partnership of Strafford County.
2025 UNH MLK Day of Service
Volunteering
Volunteer shifts were available on Saturday, February 1, 2025 in the Strafford Room located in the Memorial Union Building (MUB).
Created items will support UNH Cat's Cupboard, the Community Action Partnership (CAP) of Strafford County, and the Pope Memorial Humane Society - Cocheco Valley.
Please Note: There are were 234 volunteer spots. Sign-up was on a first-come, first-served basis.
Basic Needs Drive
This includes food, hygiene, and kitchen items. There were two ways to help with this effort:
Sponsor a Donation Box
Team up with your department/organization to fill a box of needed items. Then drop off the box of donated items at MUB Room 207 between January 29-31, 2025.

Donate Individually
Donation boxes will be available in the MUB until January 31, 2025.
School Supplies Donation
We partnered with the UNH Bookstore to collect much needed supplies for local schools.
