Academic Year Program

  • Upward Bound students

Upward Bound does not end with the final day of the summer program. Instead, we have an extensive academic year program geared to advising, motivating and enriching students. In the fall, students and Upward Bound commit to an Academic Year Agreement which describes the responsibilities of the program and its participants.

Academic Advising

During the academic year, participants meet with a UB advisor at their high schools twice each month to explore careers, consider colleges and financial aid, select courses, and set and monitor challenging academic and personal goals. Students often remark on the value of having a person to support them in achieving their goals.

Saturday Academies

Students have the opportunity to attend Saturday academic support sessions, known as Saturday Academies, twice monthly during the school year. During these academies, students receive tutoring from college students, work on homework and projects, complete college applications, prepare for the SATs or ACTs, engage in interesting discussions on the topics of the day, and have an opportunity to socialize with their UB friends from other schools.

Other Academic Year Activities

Additionally, students take part in college visits, workshops for Juniors and Seniors, an annual winter reunion, and various culturally enriching activities.
