Fall 2020 Semester in the City Fellow
Caila Kilson-Kuchtik

Caila Kilson-Kuchtic was a senior at the University of New Hampshire, majoring in Communication with a minor in Public Health. Aside from her academic studies, Caila was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority at the University as well as a UNH Admissions Tour Guide, and a member of the UNH Her Campus chapter. In the summer of 2019, she was an intern in John Snow Inc.’s International Division, an international public health consulting firm. She spent the spring semester of 2020 in Barcelona, Spain at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Caila interned at Project Hope, a non-profit that partners with women and their families in the inner-city of Boston to provide support through programs and services in their journey up and out of poverty. As a public health minor, Caila is interested in the lack of access to and quality of prenatal care for minority women. She hopes to pursue a career in policy initiatives that change our maternal healthcare system so that low-income minority women can obtain quality, culturally relevant, and sensitive prenatal care. By interning at Project Hope, Caila wanted to further develop an understanding for how homelessness and prenatal care are interconnected. She was excited to learn about the impact Project Hope has on these women and their families. Through Semester in the City, Caila developed a deeper understanding of what it means to be an innovative thinker in the social sector.
