    E-Waste FAQ’s

What will happen to my donated item?
If it's a laptop that meets criteria to be refreshed and reused, the data will be securely “wiped” and then UNH ET&S will refresh it and the Laptop Loaner program will make sure a UNH student gets it.

If it's any other item, our partner CoreTek will collect it, securely wipe the data, and then resell it and/or recycle it depending on its condition. A portion of resell funds will come back to UNH, and benefit the Laptop Loaner program!

What is the Laptop Loaner Program and how will my donation benefit it?
    The
Loaner Laptop program provides laptop computers to UNH students in need. It started during the pandemic as a way for UNH undergraduate and graduate students who don't have the financial means to access or replace the technical resources required to learn and study. It has continued to see a high volume of requests for the laptops and as they are ending their life cycle, we are looking to be able to purchase or repurpose laptops to add to our program.

What will happen to the data on my item; how can I know that it is secure?
Our partner, Coretek, is R2v3/RIOS certified and is trusted by organizations around the country to collect their technology, securely destroy the data stored on these items, and (if applicable) recycle them responsibly.

I have an item that I’m wondering if you’ll take….
We have the same “accepted” and “non-accepted” (for example no furniture, appliances, or items that do not contain electronic components) items list as the UNH SEED program, see the full list here.

I'm a UNH employee, how do I donate UNH items?
Great news! UNH already has a donation/recycling program in place for university-owned property:
the Secure Electronic Equipment Disposal (SEED) program. It’s important that UNH devices go through the SEED process, which involves a detailed equipment inventory, so please follow SEED protocols for any UNH-owned devices.
