As a TRIO Scholar, you will discuss topics related to financial literacy, and create a financial plan for now and post-graduation.
Through workshops, and 1-on-1 meetings, and online resources exclusively available to TRIO Scholars, you can learn about the following topics:
- Insurance – understanding your health insurance benefits and costs, types of insurance, picking an insurance plan as part of a job offer
- Credit – what is a credit score, how to effectively use credit cards, credit vs. debit cards, types of savings accounts
- Loans – understanding your student loans and repayment
- Taxes – what is the student tax credit, tax filing timelines, resources for filing taxes
- Budgeting – types of budgets, creating a budget that works for you, tracking your cash flow
Through TRIO Scholars workshops and individual meetings, you will have the opportunity to have all your FAFSA questions answered by a representative from the UNH Financial Aid Office. If you have special circumstances, aren’t sure what certain questions are asking, or otherwise have difficulty filing your FAFSA, TRIO Scholars will work through the process with you.
As a TRIO Scholar, you can receive support from your Educational Counselor to breakdown what your financial aid package means for you. This includes understanding what your UNH bill is, finding out if you have student loans, finding scholarships and other resources to help pay for school, and finding work-study positions.
As you prepare to graduate, as a TRIO Scholar, you will receive exit loan counseling. This includes information about where to find how much you owe in student loans, different repayment plans, what to do if you are not able to make a payment, and understanding what your loans mean for you.
Please check the TRIO Scholars Canvas Page, or talk to your Educational Counselor/Academic Coach, to learn about how to access the above resources.
