Artist Bio
As a self-taught artist, Holly relishes in the freedoms of expression and creativity as she brings vibrant colors and movement to her landscapes. Born in Maine, she values time spent in the woods and on the coast- capturing shadows, sunbursts, and sun flecked surfaces. Formally educated in Cell Biology from an engineering school, Holly takes an iterative problem-solving approach to each composition by carefully placing trees, horizons, and elements within the subject and working through the process of conveying the colors, textures, and mood for each piece that she creates. Holly is a keen observer and studies her subjects with a fine eye, picking out bursts of color and small details to add interest and warmth. She prides herself with capturing New England landscapes to share with others, receiving frequent appreciation for bringing Maine and New England to those who visited or used to live there. Holly is her happiest in her home studio with her three easels stacked with in-progress pieces and toned canvases just waiting to be created. Holly is represented by seven galleries in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Utah, and Colorado.
Artist's Statement
Both pieces represent the views I find along the Maine coast. Both were based on a fall hike around Dog's Head Trail on Orrs Island, Maine.
