Honors College Petition for Academic Variance

If a student plans on deviating from their curriculum track, they should utilize the Honors College Petition for Academic Variance to formally notify Honors staff of their request. Once their request has been reviewed, they will receive an email update regarding the status of their petition.

Honors College Withdrawal Form

If a student is no longer interested in pursuing the Honors curriculum, they should complete the Honors College Withdrawal Form to formally notify the Honors staff of their intent to terminate their involvement. Once their request has been reviewed, they will receive an email update regarding their status as a student in the Hamel Honors & Scholars College.

Honors in Major/Departmental Honors Registration Form

Students who are not part of the Honors Program (pre-fall 2024) or the Hamel Honors & Scholars College (fall 2024 onwards) but are actively pursuing honors in major or departmental honors must complete the Honors in Major / Departmental Honors Registration Form to formally notify the Honors staff of their intent. The Hamel Honors & Scholars College is responsible for certifying honors diplomas, so all students pursuing the honors in major or departmental honors options are encouraged to register for efficient diploma certification.

Honors Designation Form

This form allows students to designate non-Honors classes as Honors to fulfill Honors requirements. Before filling out this form, students must be enrolled in the course they wish to designate as Honors. Students seeking to designate a course as Honors must first speak to their professor and come to an agreement regarding how the student will engage with the course material on a deeper level to satisfy Honors expectations. The faculty member should think of the student as a mentee, and the student should expect to take an exceptionally active role in the course. Honors work may be in addition to and/or in place of the syllabus requirements. Honors courses cannot be taken pass/fail.

Petition for Variance in Academic Policy*

*This is a UNH Registrar's Office Form used to request a deviation or alteration to a registered course. Petition for Variance in Academic Policy forms are reviewed by the Registrar's Office, not the Honors Staff.

Proposal for Approval of High-Impact Academic Experience**

A student should complete the Proposal for Approval of High-Impact Academic Experience detailing their intended high-impact experience. Experiences such as certain internships and fellowships, or service experiences can be approved if they include regular meetings with a UNH faculty member to situate the experience in an academic context.

In order to be approved, these experiences must:

  1. Contribute to a student’s academic development (in addition to career preparation or other benefits to be gained from the experience). Academic experiences include research and/or analysis
  2. Be overseen by a UNH faculty or staff member to whom the student is accountable
  3. Be comparable in scale and time commitment to at least a two-credit course, which is to say approximately 80 to 90 hours in total, which can include preparation time for the experience as well as the experience itself

Completion of High-Impact Academic Experience**

Once a student has completed a high-impact academic experience, either a pre-approved high-impact experience or a proposed, student-designed high-impact academic experience, they should complete the Completion of High-Impact Academic Experience. Once their high-impact academic experience has been reviewed, they will receive an email update regarding their status as a student in the Hamel Honors & Scholars College.

**For students pursuing the pre-2024 University Honors Program Interdisciplinary Track.
