Artist Bio
Ember Nevins is a recent graduate of the University of New Hampshire, where she received her BFA in Fine Arts and BA in Women’s and Gender Studies. Ember is fascinated with textures, fragments, and modules, and her work seeks to explore the connections between nature and body. She views her work as an extension of her mind, spirit, and soul – fluctuating with the natural and organic patterns of life.
Ember’s process can be described by two actions: searching and building. She looks at her works in process as puzzles that don’t have defined pieces – images that come to life slowly through the amalgamation of fragments and displaced elements. For her, It’s a meditative process, where she can allow herself to be guided by her materials and trust in the final result.
Artist's Statement
"Blueberry Tree" is a collage that explores the cyclical nature of growth. If you look closely at my work, the trunk of the tree is made from torn images of compost material, which lends itself to the idea that growth is a process that hinges on decay. On the surface, nature can be whimsical, joyful, and friendly — but this can only be attributed to the more grotesque natural processes that happen under the surface. "Blueberry Tree" is an homage to the natural cycle of growth, and acknowledges that deterioration is necessary for prosperity
