Artist Bio
Attending the University of New Hampshire in Durham in the early 80's, Barrett McDevitt was extremely fortunate to study drawing and watercolor painting under the late John Hatch for four years. Hatch was adamant that Barrett pursue a career as an artist, but after achieving a studio art minor, Barrett formed a marketing firm for high tech companies with two other partners where he worked as Principal Creative Director for fifteen years. He was instrumental in helping to grow the company to over eighty employees, one of the largest marketing agencies in New Hampshire. Now retired from marketing, Barrett is pursuing his goal of being a full time artist. He studied classical realism at the Ingbretson Atelier when it was located in Manchester NH for four years. He also spends considerable time painting landscape directly from life in all seasons.
Artist's Statement
The Bathing Pool Appledore started as a small oil painting I did from life during my Artist in Residency at the Shoal’s Marine Lab in 2019. After dinner in the Marine Lab dining hall, I would have about one hour of decent light to paint, and when the weather was just right the light was very beautiful. The bathing pool was directly in front of Appledore House and was a swimming area for summer guests until the hotel burned down in 1914.
