Thin films and sputter deposition
With the help of an Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program grant and the guidance of his mentor, Professor James Harper, physics major Nick Dellas looked closely at texture formation in thin films during sputter deposition.
“I was able to make a connection between concepts learned in class and the research that I was working on. It was a good experience to see practical applications for some of the theory that we learn,” he says. “I am proud of the work I have done and find it very interesting.”
Nick presented his findings at the Undergraduate Research Conference with the threefold purpose of sharing his senior thesis research with friends and colleagues from around the University, attracting more people into the field of physics, and honing his presentation skills.
