Grade 6- Starting to Think About College

Grade 6 Curriculum

Program Goals:

  • To identify and serve 140 sixth graders in the Seacoast and Lakes Region.
  • To increase participants postsecondary aspirations.
  • To provide students with information that will enhance their self-esteem and help them understand that they have choices about their future.

Objectives:

  • To enhance students self awareness
  • To expand student awareness about postsecondary options and career choices.
  • To identify their personal interests, skills and strengths
  • To identify careers of interest and know how they relate to their own interests and abilities
  • To describe skills and education needed for a variety of careers
  • To describe steps they can take in preparing for their future

Activities:

  • Week 1 Introduction Activities
  • Week 2 Study Skills Activity
  • Week 3 Career Awareness Activities
  • Week 4 Introduction to a college campus
  • Week 5 Tour and lunch at UNH or PSU
  • Week 6 College Awareness Activities
