University Day, also called U-Day, is an annual tradition here at the University of New Hampshire that brings thousands of students, staff, faculty, and Durham, NH community members together to celebrate and learn about the more than 200 student groups, campus departments, local businesses, and more. The event is open to the public and took place on Thursday, September 7th, 2023 from 2:30 – 7:00pm. U-Day is organized by the Memorial Union & Student Activities staff, and the hardworking Hospitality Services team that cooks and serves BBQ-style menu items throughout the entire event.
U-Day took place on Thompson Hall Lawn, Scott Hall Lawn (The Fish Bowl) and Main Street. A portion of Main Street was closed off for staff to prepare and serve the community with a variety of mouth-watering menu items. Foods included local Maine Family Farm burgers, Kayem All-Beef hot dogs, local roasted squash bowls, ice cream novelties, potato chips, Coca-Cola drinks, and Dasani waters. Udi’s gluten-free buns and Vegan options are available to ensure everyone has something to enjoy. Chefs and staff served guests with big smiles and were dedicated to giving the community an outdoor experience like no other.
Throughout the event, student groups and campus departments had tables to provide information and answer questions. They offered giveaways, signups, and raffles to encourage involvement. There was a diverse range of opportunities from sports teams, academics, special interests, and more.
Everyone walked away with their stomachs full, bags filled with goodies, and a smile on their face from enjoying U-Day and each other’s company in this event that allows for the Durham, NH Community to come together.
