UNH and Chez Boucher Cooking School Partner to Offer Adult Culinary Classes
DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire Hospitality Management Program, in partnership with Chez Boucher Cooking School, will offer basic culinary classes for adult learners beginning Monday, Sept. 12, 2016.
“Cooking, Food, and Wine Fundamentals” will cover the basic techniques and terminologies needed to enhance an individual’s cooking skills and educate on the basics of safe food handling, preparation, food production procedures and wine pairing. The class is Mondays from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. for six weeks at a cost of $595. To learn more and register visit https://paulcollege.unh.edu/cooking-food-and-wine-fundamentals.
A second session, “Bistro Cuisine,” follows a traditional menu format starting with appetizers and hors d’oeuvres following on to soups, salads and plated entrees. It will run in spring 2017.
“We recognized a public need to get back to basics and learn more about good culinary techniques that can enhance the home experience, particularly with the push toward healthy eating,” said Nelson Barber, chair of the Hospitality Management Program. “These classes, taught by faculty member Chef Ron Boucher, who also owns the well-established culinary program at Chez Boucher, are an exciting opportunity.”
Each of the sessions offers a hands-on kitchen experience. Participants begin by improving knife skills, understanding the basics of food safety and sanitation, learning the application of applying heat to food, utilizing seasoning techniques and understanding the art of building flavor.
“This culinary program at Chez Boucher Cooking School has received rave reviews since it started in 2003, and I am excited to offer these courses at UNH as part of the Hospitality Management Program providing a much needed and valuable adult educational opportunity,” said Boucher.
UNH’s Hospitality Management program is the second-oldest hospitality management program in the United States taking a one-size-fits-one approach to each prospective student. The program provides students with business courses as well as professional interdisciplinary courses and internship opportunities.
