DURHAM, N.H. - The N.H. Authors Series, hosted by the Friends of Dimond Library at the University of New Hampshire, will present novelist Terry Farish Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at 2 p.m. in the Dimond Library's 5th floor reading room. Farish's newest novel, "The Good Braider," set in South Sudan and Portland, Maine, tells the story of a teenage girl's experience of war, dreams, survival, and the African art of braiding hair.

During the course of her career as a Red Cross worker in Vietnam, children's librarian, writer, and director of the N.H. Humanities Council's literacy program, Farish has honed her compassion for those affected by war and life's struggles. Her books include "Flower Shadows" and "If the Tiger," both set in Southeast Asia, and an award-winning children's book, "The Cat Who Liked Potato Soup."

Through the Humanities Council Farish directs the Bilingual Folktale Project and has worked with the largest group of refugees in New Hampshire, Nepali-speaking people from Bhutan, to produce and publish a Bhutanese folktale in Nepali and English.

The NH Authors series is held three times a year, bringing writers to UNH who are New Hampshire natives or who live or teach in the Granite State. Local author Rebecca Rule leads the talks, which take place in front of a live audience for future broadcasting and web streaming on www.nhptv.org/authors.
