DURHAM, N.H. -- University of New Hampshire Professional Development and Training will host an Applied Leadership Institute for managers and supervisors in profit and nonprofit organizations.

The institute is comprised of three Tuesdays: March 29, April 12, and May 3, from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. It will be held at UNH at Pease Tradeport, 73 Corporate Drive, in Portsmouth.

The registration deadline for this program is March 15.

The mission of the institute is to assist leaders in making transformational changes that will significantly improve their own performance as well as the performance of their organizations.
The three primary objectives are:

• To develop exceptional leadership behaviors and approaches.
• To profile and analyze the characteristics and behaviors of highly effective change-oriented teams.
• To help participants create a blueprint for organizational transformation and process improvements.

Participants will gain specific leadership, team development, and change management skills that will result in improved individual, team, and process performance. Practical, state-of-the-art business and leadership concepts, theories, and approaches will be covered. Participants will review the characteristics and behaviors of highly effective change-oriented teams and develop a blueprint for improving their own leadership style as well as transforming their organization and its processes.

During Day 1 of the institute, the focus will be on the individual leader, looking at the characteristics that make an optimal leader, evaluating strengths and weaknesses, and discussing how operational challenges and trends affect leadership style. Practical leadership activities will be included.

During Day 2, the focus will be more on the organizational processes and how to incorporate process improvement and positive change into the workplace.

During Day 3, participants will examine the qualities that are present in high-performing organizational teams and culture, receive a 360-degree assessment, and take part in simulation exercises that will heighten their understanding and skills as a team participant.

The institute will be led by Peter Hughes, M.Ed, who is president and CEO of High Performance Leadership, Ltd. He also teaches organizational behavior at UNH's Whittemore School of Business & Economics, has worked as a consultant with companies, and has taught at the UNH Browne Center.

The cost of the institute is $705 and includes lunch and materials.
