The philanthropy of J. Morgan Rutman ’84 is benefitting students and faculty in diverse areas around the university—including the Shoals Marine Laboratory, a prestigious lecture series on the American presidency and a new athletic complex. Now, the UNH Foundation will benefit from his business acumen and leadership—Rutman has been named the foundation board’s next chairman, succeeding Lynne Dougherty ’78.

Rutman’s ties to his alma mater run deep: his father, Darrett B. Rutman, was a longtime faculty member in the History Department and early American history scholar, who, along with Morgan’s mother, Anita, authored several works.

Rutman, an Oyster River graduate and business administration major while at UNH, is president of Willoughby Capital Management, a private investment company, established in October 2008. Though his family is based in New York, he visits campus often, and said recently that “New Hampshire is definitely home to me.”
