Dick Umile '72 and Sean McDonnell '78

October was an exciting month for two of the University’s best-known coaches: football coach Sean McDonnell ’78 and men’s hockey coach Dick Umile ‘72, who both notched milestone wins for their programs. On Oct. 6, McDonnell earned his 100th career win as the Wildcats defeated Georgia State 44–21 at the Georgia Dome. Currently in his 14th season at the helm, McDonnell joins his predecessor Bill Bowes as only the second UNH football coach to reach the century mark in career wins. Umile kicked off the 2012-13 season with his 500th career win on Oct. 12 in a 5–3 Homecoming Weekend victory against St. Cloud State. Now embarking on his 23rd season at UNH, Umile joins just five other active Division I hockey coaches to earn 500 wins and becomes the 15th ever to reach the milestone mark.
