UNH is once again among the most sustainable schools in the country.

“We heard from Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) that we are again a top performer in the AASHE Sustainable Campus Index, securing third place in the ranking,” notes Colleen Flaherty, communications and information coordinator at UNH’s Sustainability Institute. “Thanks to our students, faculty and staff, UNH continues to be a leader in sustainability.”

Earlier this week, the Sierra Club Top 20 Coolest Schools 2019 recognized UNH among the best of the best. Out of more than 280 colleges and universities that participated in this year’s Sierra Club survey, UNH secured the fourth spot on the list. In its announcement of UNH’s rank, the Sierra Club cited both UNH’s progress toward aligning the university’s endowment with principles of sustainable investment and  the university’s Sustainability Fellowships, where students “get paired with municipal and NGO partners to work on initiatives like assessing cities' carbon and nitrogen footprints and retrofitting historic buildings,” among other initiatives.

UNH has also been recognized by The Chronicle of Higher Education Top College for Sustainability 2019 and The Princeton Review  The Chronicle of Education list ranks UNH as third among institutions that grant doctoral degrees.

“We’re pleased that national organizations recognize our consistent leadership in sustainability, says Tom Kelly, UNH’s chief sustainability officer. “Students place a high priority on careers that allow them to do work that has a positive impact on society and see themselves as future leaders who will advance sustainability in their civic and professional lives. We are currently working to strengthen and expand opportunities for students to get hands-on sustainability problem-solving experience while at UNH.”
