Thursday, October 15, 2015

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire will offer a new master in Public Policy (MPP) program beginning next fall. Designed for tomorrow's policy leaders, the 14-16 month, 40-credit, full-time program will begin accepting applications immediately.

The program will offer an array of options for students including concentrations in policy analysis and strategy and communications as well as a range of electives in specific policy areas. Coursework also includes a January term in Washington, D.C., an internship, and capstone project to prepare students for the challenging work of today's policy world.

"This will be the flagship program of the new Carsey School of Public Policy," said P.T. Vasudevan, interim provost. "The creation of this degree is a fine example of our commitment to creating high-quality, experiential learning in areas that benefit the state, the nation, and the world. We are pleased to both benefit from UNH's faculty strengths and build on them with expertise from policy professionals who will also contribute to the program. Students will graduate well prepared with the skills they need to have an impact."

Public policy degrees attract students who are passionate about serving the public interest. They work in government, nonprofits, consulting and lobbying firms, and international organizations, where they may tackle some of society's biggest problems. Michael Ettlinger, director of the Carsey School, worked in Washington, D.C. before coming to UNH.

"The mission of 'public policy' is to make our society stronger and more just, it is to enable people to make their lives better and our world healthy and sustainable. This program is about giving students the skills to use public policy to achieve those ends - to make a difference and change our world for the better. These are the skills that the profession is looking for and the world needs."

The MPP program is accepting applications now for the program beginning fall 2016. For more information and to apply, visit https://carsey.unh.edu/mpp.
