State Medical Examiner Confirms Body Recovered from Piscataqua River is Missing UNH Student
DURHAM, N.H. - The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed today that the body recovered from the Piscataqua River near Prescott Park in Portsmouth Sunday, Sept. 29, was Jonathan Zygmont, the University of New Hampshire student missing for nearly two weeks from that area.
Zygmont, 19, a first-year student who lived on campus, was last seen near the park at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013. Foul play was never suspected but police were concerned for his well-being.
"UNH is a caring community and it is always difficult to learn of the death of one of our students," said UNH President Mark Huddleston. "We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends during this very difficult time and will remain focused on providing support and resources to our campus community and Jon's loved ones."
The UNH Counseling Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 24-hour help is available by calling (603) 862-2090. Counseling staff is also working directly with students, faculty, and staff as needed.
