DURHAM, N.H. -- In the course of investigating an alleged assault that occurred Nov. 14 at 9:15 p.m., police have learned the incident was not random and there is no cause for alarm. The male student reporting the incident did know the alleged assailants and police continue to investigate the nature of their relationship. The alleged assailants are not UNH students.

"The safety and well-being of our students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors is our number one priority," said UNH Police Chief Paul Dean. "As we uncovered information, we felt it was important to let the community know this was not a random incident. While people should always be aware of their surroundings and take safety precautions there is no cause for alarm."

In addition, police and security are available to provide escorts to and from on-campus locations if shuttle service is not running. Campus shuttles operate on campus and run throughout the night; call for one at 862-2328. In the event the shuttle is not operating, a walking escort to and from on-campus locations will be provided.
