On Thursday, April 12, 2012, University of New Hampshire Police Detective Eric Kulberg was one of four members of the New Hampshire Attorney General's Drug Task Force shot while executing a search warrant at a home in Greenland; Greenland Police Chief Michael Maloney was also fatally shot in the incident. Detective Kulberg, a seven-year veteran of the UNH Police Department and a graduate of UNH, was released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. We ask members of the media to respect the privacy of Detective Kulberg and his family during this difficult time. The University of New Hampshire continues to work in cooperation with the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office in the aftermath of the tragic incident in Greenland and will not have further comment while the investigation continues.

UNH President Mark Huddleston shared his sympathies on behalf of the entire university community, saying "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Chief Maloney as well as the injured officers and the state's entire law enforcement community. Every day police officers put their lives at risk to protect our freedoms and safety, and we will do whatever is necessary to support Detective Kulberg and his family during this difficult time."

UNH Police Chief Paul Dean offered his thanks on behalf of the entire UNH Police Department, saying "Our number one priority is Detective Kulberg and his family as well as our greater UNH police family, and we are focused on providing them with the assistance and support they need. The outpouring of support from the community, law enforcement agencies around the country, and the staff at Portsmouth Regional Hospital has been incredible and we deeply appreciate the healing thoughts and prayers for Detective Kulberg, who is a well-respected and loved member of our family. Just recently he was recognized on campus for his exemplary work with crime victims, which is just one example of his commitment to his profession."
