DURHAM, N.H. - David Cote, chairman and chief executive officer of Honeywell, Inc., will deliver the 2011 commencement speech at the University of New Hampshire May 21, 2011. Cote, a 1976 graduate of UNH, holds a bachelor's degree in business administration.

The New Jersey-based company has nearly 130,000 employees in more than 100 countries. Under Cote's leadership, Honeywell has experienced strong performances in sales, earnings per share, segment profit, and cash flow.

President Barack Obama appointed Cote to serve on the bipartisan National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform in 2010. He was also named by Obama to co-chair the U.S.-India CEO forum in 2009, on which he has served since July 2005. 

In 2007, Cote received the Corporate Social Responsibility Award from the Foreign Policy Association for Honeywell's Hometown Solutions program, which focuses on four areas of social need: science and math education; family safety and security; housing and shelter; and humanitarian relief. That program's initiatives include helping to rebuild in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and "Got2bSafe," a partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Cote was one of several CEOs from major global corporations to join U.S. Agency for International Development administrator Henrietta Fore in providing relief to the Sichuan Province of Western China following a devastating earthquake in 2008.

Prior to joining Honeywell in 2002, Cote was president and CEO of TRW, a provider of products and services for the automotive, aerospace and information technology markets. Before taking that position, he worked for General Electric for 25 years, ending his tenure there as corporate senior vice president and president and CEO of GE Appliances.

In 2001, Cote received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the Graziadio School of Business and Management, Pepperdine University. He received an honorary professorship from Beihang University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in Beijing, China in 2009.

He is a member of the board of directors of JP Morgan Chase and is an advisor to Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.
