DURHAM, N. H. -Relay for Life, an American Cancer Society fundraiser, will take place at the University of New Hampshire's Crowell Stadium Saturday and Sunday, April 17 and 18, 2010 from noon to noon.

More than 1,240 people have registered to participate in UNH's Relay for Life. The 136 teams have raised more than $73,910, putting them more than half way to the goal of $130,000.
Relay for Life is a signature event for the American Cancer Society. Teams of eight to 15 people sign up to walk or run continuously for 24 hours, raising money through pledges. Since launching a chapter in 2004, UNH teams have raised more than $600,000.

"It's remarkable for a college to come together to fight against something that has affected so many lives. All the participants are so enthusiastic, which makes the event that much more inspiring," says Jess Keravich, UNH's Relay for Life co-chairman.

In 2009, the UNH chapter won a National Top Five Per Capita Youth Award from the American Cancer Society.

"Last year goes to show you what college students can do when they come together for a great cause," says Keravich, a senior who got involved in Relay for Life in her hometown of Rochester in 2000.

Keravich has volunteered with UNH's Relay for Life group for three years. This is her second year as co—chair. She describes her family as having been hard hit by cancer.

"This event is very important to me because cancer has taken too much from me and my family," she says. "This is my way of fighting back."
