Stars in a Southern Sky
Madison Schaefer ’16 has been involved in many activities during her undergraduate years, including being a writing assistant at the Connors Writing Center and a member of the International Dark-Sky Association. The English and justice studies major blended her love of writing and literature with her passion for combatting the problem of light pollution for her senior honors thesis, “The Joy of Melancholy.”
One of the most surprising things she learned in the process, she says, was how much she loves conducting research.
Schaefer is getting ready to immerse in another culture and see those stars from a different perspective. She will travel to New Zealand in the fall to spend three months biking her way through the country.
