Institutions to celebrate pathway launch at NCC, March 4

Tuesday, March 3, 2020

Starting this fall, a new transfer agreement will connect the Nashua Community College criminal justice students with the homeland security bachelor’s degree program at UNH. Called a 2+2 pathway, the agreement allows criminal justice associate degree graduates from NCC to start in the homeland security program at UNH Manchester with full credit for all NCC courses.

“This is a great opportunity for students to start their education at NCC and finish it at UNH,” said David Dinwoodie, Criminal Justice Program Coordinator at Nashua Community College. “A degree in homeland security opens the door to a wide range of career paths at the Federal or State level or within the burgeoning defense industry.”

To make the pathway possible, Dinwoodie worked with UNH Manchester Dean Mike Decelle and James Ramsay, professor of security studies and UNH homeland security program coordinator.

“We are excited to expand academic options that make UNH more accessible and affordable for NCC students,” Decelle said. “Both colleges are committed to fostering meaningful outcomes for students, and the new homeland security pathway furthers that mission by offering NCC students more and stronger employment prospects in the high-demand fields of security and law enforcement.”

Ramsay said the pathway opens doors for NCC students by connecting them to the range of careers that UNH’s homeland security program prepares them for.

“UNH homeland security graduates are uniquely positioned for careers in intelligence, counter-terrorism, law enforcement, environmental health, strategic planning and risk management, emergency management and cybersecurity,” Ramsay said. “This pathway opens more doors for criminal justice students at NCC to pursue rewarding careers in the public and private sectors as well as the military.”

UNH Manchester has been an excellent partner in forging new seamless pathways between NCC associate degree programs and bachelor’s degrees at UNH Manchester. In addition to the homeland security agreement, the two institutions also offer pathways for programs such as electronic engineering technology, business, data analytics, psychology, and more.

As of the 2018-2019 academic year, UNH Manchester is the most popular transfer location for NCC graduates, with 26 percent of graduates choosing the University for their Bachelor’s Program.

Faculty, staff, students, and program alumni will celebrate the new pathway between NCC and UNH Manchester at the NCC campus from 4 – 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4. For more information or to RSVP, please contact Mary Young at 603.641.4119 or mary.young@unh.edu.
