Some researchers surround themselves with beakers and scopes; Andrew Boysen prefers flutes and French horns. Composing is his research. He does a lot of it, and he does it really well. Boysen, professor of music, received the 2017 Excellence in Research award at the recent Faculty Excellence Awards ceremony. “The way he thinks about music and can understand it and get us to understand and react to it is something special,” says one of his students.
