The works of 10 UNH faculty members are featured in the exhibit “Back to School Special” at the George Marshall Store Gallery of the Museums of Old York in York, Maine.

Running through Oct. 2, the show includes artists Sachiko Akiyama (sculpture and woodcarving), Michael Cardinali (photography), Brian Chu (drawing, painting, printmaking), Grant Drumheller (painting, drawing), Rick Fox (painting and drawing), Julee Holcombe (photography), Craig Hood  (painting and drawing), Jennifer Moses (painting and drawing), Don Williams (ceramics) and Leah Woods (wood/furniture design).

“This is the second year in a row our artists have done a ‘road show,’” says Hood, professor of art and chair of the department of art and art history, noting the group had an exhibition last year at the Kingston Gallery in Boston.

“We really enjoy putting our work in front of a larger audience and will soon be looking for another new venue, perhaps in a part of New Hampshire where people don’t have frequent opportunities to see what we do.

“Along with everything else, we hope this will encourage young people around the state to look at our school as an attractive place to study art.”

With an emphasis on fundamental concepts and traditional methods, as well as an insistence on original thinking, UNH’s studio art program has provided students with a sound formal education in the fine arts for almost a century.

The artists teaching at UNH are themselves active professionals whose works are on display at regional, national and international venues.

The George Marshall Store Gallery is located at 140 Lindsay Road in York.
