The social justice leadership minor is a new program approved by the University, effective in the fall of 2016, for students in all colleges. Developed by Marla Brettschneider and Faina Bukher of the women’s studies program, the 5-course sequence will give students the opportunity to focus their studies and develop applied skills in the area of social justice leadership. Through theory, leadership study and experiential learning activities, students will explore policies, power dynamics, institutions and structures that promote or hinder equity. They’ll examine various forms of injustice and learn about the processes required to address them.
For students who plan to work in the arena of social justice after graduation, the minor will certify their commitment to the field. It will also help them build a network of faculty, governmental and organizational workers with whom they might collaborate in the future.
