Longtime UNH employee Kerry L. Scala has been named the University of New Hampshire’s new associate vice president for finance. Scala brings more than 25 years of experience working in different capacities and divisions within UNH and the University System of New Hampshire (USNH) and joins Christopher D. Clement ’94, who was appointed vice president for finance and administration in December 2014.
Scala started her career as an auditor at USNH and moved over to UNH to serve as a senior accountant in the office of the vice president for finance and administration. Following a leave to work on a system-wide finance and HR system implementation project, Scala served as the director of finance and planning at the Whittemore School of Business and Economics (now the Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics). In 2005, she returned to the office of the vice president for finance and administration, most recently serving as the university’s finance director. In that role, Scala and her team were responsible for a budget of $570 million.
“Kerry’s deep knowledge of the university budget and diverse set of finance skills and experience are a welcome addition and will be fully tapped in her new role,” Clement says. “She is a strong and very capable leader who will continue to improve our finance and accounting organization to meet the demands now and in the future, while creatively supporting the UNH strategic goals and objectives.”
Scala says she is excited about this new opportunity and the challenges the new position will present. “I look forward to continuing to work with so many talented and dedicated people at the UNH and the university system, many of whom have encouraged and supported me over the years,” she says.
Scala succeeds Joanna Young, who served as associate vice president of finance until July 2014.
