Spring 2021 Semester in the City Fellow
Mel Nagashima

Mel was a junior studying Communication with a dual major in International Affairs. On campus, he was involved in the Rugby Club as Match Secretary and Buddies Without Borders. Mel pursued his passion for diversity of foreign communities in the United States by interning at the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center during spring semester 2021. BCNC empowers Asians and new immigrants to build healthy families, achieve greater economic success, and contribute to thriving communities. It accomplishes this by providing a broad range of innovative, family-centered programs and services to children, youth, and adults each year. Mel focused as a Community Outreach Fellow and Teacher for BCNC students. He organized job fairs and resume workshops and, ultimately, made an interactive workshop video that can be accessed by students online to help prepare them for basic level job application processes. In the future, Mel hopes to use his Semester in the City experience and his International Affairs Dual Degree to not only help foreign communities within the United States, but also to help people gain opportunities all over the world.
