Angela Fuentes, ’23

Spring 2021 Semester in the City Fellow
Angela

Angela was a sophomore studying Public Service and Non-Profit Leadership at the University of New Hampshire, Manchester Campus. She interned at the Center to Support Immigrant Organizing , a nonprofit organization dedicated to upholding the immigrant population in the Boston area. She collaborated with other interns in college readiness workshops for high school juniors and seniors from immigrant backgrounds. She also participated in a research project with professors from the University of Massachusetts, with the goal of portraying the difficulties that English learners in high school face. The most exciting part of working with this organization was developing her own workshop regarding topics of social justice and historical aspects in native nationalism. Through her own experiences as an English learner and as an immigrant, she learned the struggles that other English learners are facing. Fortunately, through her work in research, she is developing resources like college readiness workshops to facilitate high school students from immigrant backgrounds.
