Cathy Fletcher

2021 Sustainability Fellow - Land Use as an Aspect of Community Climate Action | Town of Durham, NH
Cathy Fletcher Headshot

Cathy was from Kulpmont, Pennsylvania, pursuing a Master of City Planning (MCP) at Boston University with the goal of creating more sustainable communities while incorporating community input. She previously earned a BS in Environmental Engineering from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. After graduation, she worked as an Environmental Risk Consultant for two years before participating in an AmeriCorps service year with Habitat for Humanity. There, she worked to develop their Neighborhood Revitalization program and discovered the importance of providing community-driven solutions based on the unique needs of each community.

During the summer 2021, she worked with the Town of Durham, New Hampshire to build upon previous fellows’ efforts to analyze carbon sequestration opportunities and develop local partnerships. She conducted an inventory of greenhouse gas emissions and sinks from land use. Following the ICLEI U.S. Community Protocol for Accounting and Reporting of Greenhouse Gas Emissions, she identified sources of emissions and sinks, quantified their carbon footprints, and recommended strategies to reduce emissions and increase sinks. Additionally, Cathy identified strategies to increase community engagement and involvement in Durham sustainability initiatives.
