Dear Fellow Wildcats,

After careful consideration and collaboration with our league partners, we have made the decision to allow our student athletes to return to play with continued strict adherence to all CDC, state and university COVID-19 guidelines. This means seasons and travel will be limited and there will be no spectators at any home games.

While we hope to be able to revisit our decision about spectators after the new year, the steady increase of cases in the state and on our campuses is concerning. The health and safety of our students and our communities remains the university’s top priority. Limiting access to the student athletes, coaches and essential staff already in our rigorous testing program will keep them safe as well as limit any potential exposure to families, fans and the greater community.

Men’s and women’s hockey will play their first on-campus games against Boston College the weekend before Thanksgiving. The women will skate Friday, Nov. 20, at 4:30 p.m. and the men Saturday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. Both games will be televised live on NESN. Other winter sports will resume as well. Tentative schedules for men’s and women’s basketball have been released while schedules for gymnastics and swimming & diving are still being finalized. In addition, sports postponed in the fall will be played this spring, pending any updates or changes to COVID-19 guidelines.
