The fellowship program is designed to provide an opportunity for scientists and engineers to learn first-hand how scientific and technological information is used in environmental policy-making; to provide a unique public policy learning experience; to demonstrate the value of science, technology, and economics in addressing societal problems; and to make practical contributions to the more effective use of scientific and technical knowledge in the programs of the U.S. government. Fellows work in offices throughout the EPA on projects of mutual interest to the Fellows and the hosting offices.

Value: $89,000 to $116,000 per year, along with other support including reimbursement for health care insurance
Eligibility: Applicant must hold a doctoral-level degree (PhD, ScD, MD, DVM, EdD, etc.), in any of the following: Medical and Health sciences, Biological, Physical or Earth sciences, Social and Behavioral sciences, Computational sciences and Mathematics, or Engineering disciplines (applicants with a MS in engineering and three years of professional engineering experience also qualify). Must hold U.S. citizenship and be eligible to receive federal government funds through the System of Award Management (SAM). Male applicants must be registered with the U.S. Selective Service System unless they became naturalized U.S. citizens after age 26 or have received a waiver. Federal employees are not eligible.
