What is a Hackathon?

A hackathon/ideathon is any event where people come together to creatively solve problems. The goals of a hackathon/ideathon are to strengthen the community that the hackathon is for, be welcoming to all knowledge levels and backgrounds, provide an opportunity for participants to learn something new, and provide a space and a time for participants to make headway on problems in which they are interested.  (Joshua Tauberer, Hackathon.Guide)
