Sexual Misconduct Reporting at UNH Flowchart
Reporting Sexual Misconduct: What are the options?
A student who has experienced sexual harassment or sexual violence is not required, but encouraged, to report the incident. Students who know about, or suspect, sexual harassment or sexual violence has occurred against another student are not required to report these incidents unless they are designated as a mandatory reporter.
UNH has a comprehensive system to assist students who choose to report sexual violence. Those who wish to make a report have a few different options. Complaints can be filed directly with the Title IX Coordinator and/or the UNH Police. They may also report to a mandatory reporter, submit a report (including anonymous reports) through the Incident Report Form or speak with Privileged Confidential Support Services.

In addition to the above, information can be sent directly to the Title IX Coordinator by submitting the information via the Incident Report From (IRF)or by sharing information with a mandatory reporter. Additionally, reports made directly to the UNH Police regarding sexual violence will prompt the agency to make an automatic report to the Title IX Coordinator.
UNH is required by law to take action once a report of sexual harassment or sexual violence has been received. If the impacted party does not want an investigation or disciplinary action to take place, or otherwise wishes their identity remain private, that request will be carefully considered. However, honoring such a request may limit UNH’s ability to respond fully to the incident and, in some cases, UNH may override the request for privacy and engage in the grievance process to maintain a safe community.
Directly reporting incidents to the Civil Rights & Equity Office/Title IX Coordinator or UNHPD allows for the fastest response by the University. If there is an emergency, please call 911.
Option 2: UNH Mandatory Reporters
A mandatory reporter refers to certain individuals at UNH who are required to report any information they receive indicating that a student has been subjected to sexual harassment or sexual violence to the Title IX Coordinator. When mandatory reporters share information with the Title IX Coordinator, this prompts the University to take responsive action consistent with its sexual violence policy and procedures. UNH mandatory reporters include: UNH Staff, UNH Faculty, Coaches, Community Assistants (CA’s), Resident Assistants (RA’s), Teaching Assistants (TA’s), Research Assistants, Learning Assistants, Graduate and Undergraduate Student Senate Executive Leaders (when conducting work for the Student Senate), Youth Camp Counselors working with minors, UNH Manchester Peer Leaders and Peer Advisors, Student Campus Safety Officers working for UNH PD.
For example, if a student writes about an incident of sexual violence in a paper or emails a professor and indicates they cannot attend class due to a sexual violence incident, the professor is required to report that information to the Title IX Coordinator. Similarly, if a student shares with their Resident Assistant they were sexually assaulted over the weekend, regardless of whether that assault occurred here, at another university, or at home, the Resident Assistant is required to report that information to the Title IX Coordinator. The Title IX Coordinator or UNHPD will then reach out in accordance with university policy to address the matter further.
UNH mandatory reporters do not include the privileged confidential support services listed below.
Option 3: Making an Anonymous Report
Those who wish to file an anonymous report of sexual violence or sexual harassment about themselves or others may do so in any one of the following ways:
- The online Incident Report Form sends a report directly to the UNH Title IX Coordinator (not monitored 24/7).
- The LiveSafe App (contacts UNH police directly).
- Contact UNH Privileged Confidential Support Resources (details and contact information below).
Reporting sexual violence anonymously may limit UNH's ability to respond fully and effectively to sexual violence complaints, but it is an available option. Anonymous reporting is only available to UNH students who are not mandatory reporters. UNH mandatory reporters must report directly to the Title IX Coordinator.
Option 4: Privileged Confidential Support Services
While we encourage students and others to report sexual violence incidents so that we can keep you, and the campus as a whole, safe, we understand the difficulties that such processes can entail. Therefore, UNH offers medical, counseling and general advice about options through our Privileged Confidential Support Services. These services include The SHARPP Center, Health & Wellness, Psychological Counseling Services, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and professional staff in the The Aulbani J. Beauregard Center for Equity, Justice, and Freedom. Discussions with these offices will not trigger a police investigation, UNH investigation or student conduct proceeding unless the impacted person requests it. Students can also start with privileged confidential support services and then, if they change their mind, they can file a report at a later time or ask that provider to help them file a report.
