Learn to Swim: Private Swim Lessons - Summer 2025

See enrollment open dates below. The first session opens on Wednesday, June 11.

UNH Campus Recreation offers Private Swim Lessons (one participant) for children ages 3-13 who need individual attention, have special needs, learn better in a one-on-one environment, or have unique scheduling needs. Students must be at least 3 years old to participate.

Private lessons are 30 minutes in length and can be purchased in blocks of 4 or 8 lessons:

  • Block of 4 lessons = $140 per student
  • Block of 8 lessons = $240 per student

Review the blocks below for important information and instructions on CampDoc, Travel and Outdoor Pool parking information.

Registration Information:

  • Students must be at least 3 years old at the start of lessons.
  • Space is limited. Enroll early to guarantee your spot.
  • Private lesson registration opens at this page on the following Wednesdays at 7pm:
    • Wednesday, June 11 - 4 and 8 Block available
    • Wednesday, July 2 - 4 Block only
    • Wednesday, July 9 - 8 Block only
    • Wednesday, July 23 - 4 Block only
  • Please review the Online Registration Instructions before enrolling for the best outcome. Family Accounts are recommended for enrolling a child or children in any UNH youth program. Note: if you have an account in our system already, you will be asked to log into either a family or student account. Be sure you know which account you have and know your user name and password. This will minimize difficulty and time while enrolling. Do not create another account if you have one already.
  • If you don't have an account already, you can set up an account at any time, even before you begin the registration process. When you create a new account, the name on the account must be the name of the participating student and the email address provided should be that of a parent/legal guardian.
  • Click the '+' sign on the lesson registration block to enroll. The lesson blocks will indicate whether there are openings (i.e. "Enroll Now/Add to Cart"). If the lesson is full or the session block does not appear, choose another lesson block (if open) or enroll during the next lesson enrollment period. Please note that enrollment caps and deadlines are in place to control the quantity of lessons and to provide the best level of response and lesson scheduling.
    • If you are on the website prior to 7pm and do not see the blocks appear, you may need to refresh the page.
  • It is not recommended to use a mobile device for enrollment.
  • Full payment online via credit card is required at the time of enrollment.

Lesson Information:

  • All lessons must be completed no later than Friday, August 15. Please take this into account when registering.
  • All summer lessons are held at the UNH Outdoor Pool. Access to the pool is from the front entrance of the Hamel Recreation Center (HRC), 5 Edgewood Rd, Durham NH. Pool users must check in at the HRC welcome center upon entering. See below for parking information.
  • Aquatics staff make every effort to accommodate all lessons as planned. In the event of cancellation due to inclement weather, a make-up session will be scheduled. A parent will be notified via email if your child’s lesson is canceled and rescheduled due to inclement weather.
  • Refunds are not provided for any unfinished lessons.
  • Lessons cannot be held on Thursday, June 19 or Friday, July 4. Weekend dates may not be available due to event and facility closures.

How Lessons are Scheduled:

  • Scheduling day and time preferences are asked as part of the CampDoc registration questions (more information below). Families must choose at least two available days/times.
  • Once the CampDoc registration questions are complete, the Swim Lesson Coordinator will make initial contact via email. This initial contact cannot occur until the student's CampDoc profile is 100% complete. Timely completion will ensure that lessons can begin promptly and be concluded before the required end date.
  • Final lesson days & times are arranged between the instructor and parent/guardian once paired with an instructor.
  • Initial contact and pairing will typically take place within 7 business days after completion of the CampDoc registration.

Participation in Swim Lessons does not include admission to the pool for the day. Any family member(s) not taking a lesson who wish to swim and a child enrolled in a lesson who wishes to swim before or after the lesson must have a pool membership or pay the daily fee. For more information, including membership/pass fees, parking information and pool policies: UNH Outdoor Pool

To request a drop from a youth program, email youth.programs@unh.edu or contact the Program Manager (info below). Please include the full name of the participant and clearly state the camp and session(s) to be dropped. Campus Recreation does not offer refunds for Swim Lessons.

For more information and program questions, contact: lindsey.collins@unh.edu or call 603-862-0845

Campus Recreation also offers Morning Group Swim Lessons, Evening Group Swim Lessons, Parent & Child Swim Lessons, and a Stroke Clinic

This course is currently unavailable.

UNH has partnered with CampDoc to quicken the enrollment process. Enrollments and payments are done here through our current enrollment system, but no registration questions will be required at that time. Within a few days of enrolling, the email provided in the student or family account will receive an email prompting completion of the registration questions.

Please note that overnight camp roommate requests are done during the CampDoc process, not at the time of enrollment.

It is important that a parent/guardian responds to the CampDoc email and completes the registration questions promptly. Families who enrolled a child in a UNH Youth Program in Summer 2023 or after will likely already have a CampDoc account. Even if the student already has a CampDoc account, a parent/guardian should log into the student's account each time they enroll in a program to review and complete any necessary questions for a program or year.

All registration questions must be 100% complete in CampDoc before a student can attend a youth program.

For more information, including the CampDoc Support Line, review our CampDoc page.
