Indigenous New Hampshire Rising: Self-Identity in the 20th and 21st Centuries
In this proposal, I outline an ethnographic research project I will conduct in the Summer and Fall 2020 and Spring 2021. Indigenous heritage is an irreducible part of the heritage of the Granite State. By focusing on personal stories of Indigenous individuals in New Hampshire in the 20th and 21st centuries, this project aims to contribute to the restatement of Indigenous heritage as valuable and important in the State of New Hampshire. I am an anthropologist who combines several anthropological methodologies to create a culturally sensitive approach to engaging in a collaborative research with indigenous individuals. Anthropology is the study of humans, past and present. “To understand the full sweep and complexity of cultures across all of human history, anthropology draws and builds upon knowledge from the social and biological sciences as well as the humanities and physical sciences” (American Anthropological Association, 2019)
