Social Work
Anita Tucker, associate professor of social work, is the recipient of the College of Health and Human Services 2017 Teaching Excellence Award. Her areas of expertise include research, statistics and adventure therapy. Tucker is an exceptional teacher, facilitator, and mentor, and a common thread across all of her courses is her enthusiasm for the subject matter and her experiential approach to teaching.
Tucker’s excitement for research coupled with her passion for student engagement sets the backdrop for her approach to clearly explaining statistical concepts in a way that boils them down into small, easily understood steps.
In addition to collaborating with many dual degree social work/adventure therapy students on research projects and conference presentations, Tucker also mentors students through the entire research process and works with each student in the program on at least one major research project. Her scholarship record has earned her a reputation as a prolific scholar in her field. With more than 20 publications, four book chapters and more than 40 conference presentations, Tucker has an established record as a national leader in adventure therapy.
About this Award
Each year, the University selects a small number of its outstanding faculty for special recognition of their achievements in teaching, scholarship, and service. Awards for Excellence in Teaching are given in each college and school, and University-wide awards recognize public service, research, teaching, and engagement.
