New Hampshire is famous for its picturesque lakes and mountains and Squam Lake is truly a gem among many. We’ll begin our visit on the ¾ mile Live Animal Exhibit Trail which winds up and down through the various habitats. You’ll see a mountain lion, bobcat, white-tailed deer, river otters, black bear, many birds and a raptor exhibit. There are numerous places along the trail to sit and rest. Beautiful Kirkwood Gardens await you at the halfway point of the trail.

Following our morning excursion, we’ll enjoy lunch at Walter’s Basin. Entrée choices include: (1) Chicken Salad Sandwich; (2) Open-faced Tuna Melt served on an English muffin; (3) French Dip au jus (roast beef on ciabatta); (4) Turkey BLT wrap; all served with kettle chips.

After lunch we’ll head to the docks for a 90-minute narrated cruise on Squam Lake. You’ll see its amazingly clear water, rocky shores, celebrated islands, historic homes, scenic mountain views and remarkable wildlife. Listen for the iconic loons and don’t forget to bring binoculars. You may want to watch the classic film “On Golden Pond” (featuring Katherine Hepburn and Henry Fonda) filmed entirely on Squam Lake.

The Natural Science Center is not handicap accessible!
