Hobbies/Special Interests: I enjoy most outdoor activates such as hiking, biking, kayaking, in the winter I like to snowshoe, ski or go on snowmobile trips. I also like to travel and recently spent two weeks in Italy. Most weekends I can be found working on projects around my house, landscaping, gardening or building something.
Statement of Interest: Being a current member of the Maine Air National Guard and a staff member here at the University I saw this as a great opportunity to help a fellow service member while also contributing to the overall success of the University. My many years of service here at the University have allowed me to build relationships that could be beneficial to a new incoming student.

Hobbies/Special Interests: I have a wife, four kids, and a full time job....and I feel fortunate to consider them my "hobbies and special interests.” Outdoors, Running, Football, Hockey
Statement of Interest: I’m 39 and have been a member of the Durham/UNH community since 1997. I joined the Marines right out of high school and then became a police officer. I was not familiar with the college-atmosphere and it was definitely a culture shock for me, being only familiar with the USMC-culture, and that of where I grew up, northern MA/southern NH. I have the highest admiration and respect for anyone who volunteers to join the US military, especially post-911, knowing the risks, uncertainties, and sacrifices involved. I welcome the opportunity to provide guidance and assistance to one of OUR veterans in this community.
Member Number: 06
Current Occupation: Detective at Durham Police Department
Branch of Service: Did not serve
Hobbies/Special Interests: Hiking, kayaking, four-wheeling, riding my motorcycle, watching movies, reading, and drinking far too much coffee!
Statement of Interest: Brief background on me: I'm originally from Ireland, but moved to the USA when I was 4 years old. I grew up in Massachusetts and graduated from high school in 2003. I attended UNH from 2003 to 2007 and then went directly into the Durham Police Department. I don't have any prior military experience, but in the six years I've been with the police department, I've seen and done many things that most day to day folks don't experience or understand. I'm very interested in being part of the mentoring program because I want to be available to listen, help, and provide support in any way I can. It would be a great experience and an honor to help and support the veterans and service members in our community.
Member Number: 07
Current Occupation: Police Officer
Branch of Service: Army and National Guard/Reserve
Hobbies/Special Interests: Motorcycle riding, Atv riding, Hiking
Statement of Interest: I am an Iraq (OIF 1) veteran who has used the Apprenticeship/On the Job Training program and the Post 9/11 GI Bill. I would like to provide any assistance that I can to veterans who are enrolled at UNH.
Member Number: 08
Current Occupation: Faculty
Branch of Service: Coast Guard
Hobbies/Special Interests: Love to travel and love to learn. I have lived for over 6 months in 15 different places (10 different states and one US territory) and I have attended or worked at 8 different universities. I have visited Eastern Europe (Hungary and Croatia), Italy (Sardinia), Malta (Gozo), Netherlands, Mexico (all border towns, Quanta Roo and Isla Mujeres) , British Virgin Islands, U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Spain. I had visited all of our National Parks by the time I was 16. My dad was in the Navy and was in the first wave of the D-day invasion on Utah Beach. My time at the University of New Hampshire (20 years) is longest I have ever lived anywhere since I left home to go to college at 17. I enjoy sailing (although my 17' O'Day Day Sailor has not been in the water since I passed under General Sullivan Bridge sideways 9 years ago), paddle boarding, kayaking, walking on beach or in woods reading and meeting new people. I have been married twice and there will not be a third. I have two daughters both in graduate school and a granddaughter and a grandson on the way. I will never buy another home (homeownership did not work out that well for me--so I am done with that). I have a small seasonal camp on a lake not far from UNH and I bounce around between winter rentals on the ocean from November to April. I try to spend a month in the Islands over winter break and I have booked my tickets for this year.
Statement of Interest: I am a Vietnam Era Veteran. I joined the US Coast Guard after a year or so of college. Not sure I will be the greatest mentor and I do not aspire to be a role model. I care about people and enjoy listening and sharing stories. My personal and professional life has provided me with the skills necessary to "navigate" complex bureaucracies and institutions. Likely my greatest strength is my ability to differentiate what I know from what I don't know.
