Program Description:

Plant collecting has been an important and scientifically valuable pastime for explorers, academics, and amateurs since the 1700s. Dried, pressed plant specimens provide a permanent record of our flora over time. Newly available tools and techniques have revolutionized the way we preserve and share information about plant diversity, highlighting the importance of historical collections.

Janet Sullivan, Ph.D., U. of Oklahoma, is an associate professor of plant biology athe the University of New Hampshire. Her research specialization is the systematics of the Physalis, a member of the nightshade family. She is also interested in pollination biology and the flora of New England.
