Richard Zang

Dr. Richard Zang is an Associate Professor of Mathematics, presently on leave for special assignment. Dr. Richard Zang is an Associate Professor of Mathematics. He received his doctorate at Rutgers University and was a visiting fellow at Princeton University. Prior to his academic career, he worked as a research scientist at the IBM Glendale Lab Research and Development Center, working on magnetic bubble memory, and then at the David Sarnoff Research Center (RCA Princeton Labs) working in artificial intelligence. Research for his doctorate entailed a three-year longitudinal study with five elementary schools analyzing students' cognition and cognitive development with regard to mathematical problem solving. In keeping with his interest in the dynamics of professional development, Zang has conducted numerous workshops for K-12 teachers in math and science. He served a three-year term on the Candia School Board, representing the district at the Delegate Assembly of the NH School Boards Association. His most recent honors and awards include the 2002 Educator of the Year Award by the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, the 2000 Volunteer Partnership Award by the Salvation Army in Manchester, and he was the first-ever recipient of the Dean's Award at UNH Manchester, for outstanding service to the community and the college.
