Program Description:

“Arms and the Citizen” discusses the historical background of home-grown terrorist and paramilitary groups like the Michigan Militia, which was linked to the Oklahoma City bombing in 1997. Among the topics covered are the longstanding gun culture in the US, as well as the impact of more recent events like the Vietnam War and the end of the Cold War.

Eliga Gould, Ph.D., Johns Hopkins U., is an associate professor of history at the University of New Hampshire. He is the author of "The Persistence of Empire: British Political Culture in the Age of the American Revolution" and specializes in the history of colonial America and the British Empire.
