Green Canaries - Study of Forest Species Such as White Pine as a Bioindicator Monitor of Elevated Levels of Tropospheric Ozone

 

Program Description:

Plants and trees are like "green canaries"— if they die, then other organisms will likely follow. By measuring the health of forest species such as the white pine, we are measuring the environmental conditions that affect all nearby organisms, including humans.

Barrett Rock, Ph.D., U. of Maryland, is a professor of natural resources and earth, oceans, and space, and director of the Complex Systems Research Center at the University of New Hampshire. His research interests include climate change and remote sensing of vegetation.
